Speaker

Gillian Ronson has two roles in the Occupational Health and Safety Department at St. Boniface Hospital.  Gillian works as the Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Program (MIPP) Advisor as well as the Disability Management Assistant.  Gillian obtained her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Manitoba in 2011.
Gillian has been in her two roles at St. Boniface Hospital since August 2013 with previous work experience in community mental health as a Mental Health Counsellor and Intensive Case Manager.
At St. Boniface Hospital, as the MIPP Advisor, Gillian is responsible for conducting Safe Patient Handling Minimal Lift Program Reviews on the various patient care units in the hospital. She collects data regarding techniques, equipment and body mechanics used during patient handling and provides brief, on-the-spot coaching and suggestions to staff as needed.  In addition Gillian also conducts equipment audits and collects injury statistics and staff training records.  The aim of the reviews is to help reduce staff injury risk.

Bowling for the Safety of Our Future 2014

To recognize and celebrate North American Occupational Safety and Health Week 2014, and to emphasize the importance of workplace safety, particularly for new and young workers, Protec Hearing Inc., Safety at Work, and SAFE Workers of Tomorrow are holding a Bingo Bowl on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Polo Park Bowling Centre 157-1485 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

It will be a fun event, with competition, prizes and food, and any proceeds from the event will be donated to SAFE Workers of Tomorrow to offset the cost of providing the workplace safety and injury prevention message to students in schools throughout Manitoba, particularly into the more remote communities in Manitoba.

SAFE Workers of Tomorrow is a non-profit registered charity devoted to providing young workers with workplace safety awareness throughout Manitoba. Manitoba has the worst injury rate in Canada, and about 1/3 of all reported injuries happen to young workers.

It is important for the safety of our future that we reach as many students as possible every year, and your participation in this fun event can help us reduce the number of workplace injuries affecting the workers of tomorrow.

We would like to invite you to attend, and also would sincerely appreciate it if you would consider either donating a prize for the silent auction, or perhaps you or your organization would be interested in being a sponsor for the event (sponsors will be recognized at the event).
