IPAM BREAKFAST MEETING MARCH 17, 2017

IPAM Breakfast Meeting

Join your IPAM colleagues on Friday, March 17th  for an interesting session as outlined below:

The contribution of management system standards to Health and Safety in the workplace

This presentation will describe the development and content of ISO 45001, a new consensus standard for the management of occupational safety and health (OHS), now at the Draft International Standard (DIS) stage.  It will also provide information on our Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard – CSA 1000-14 and the “suite” of OHS standards that have been developed to support the management of a range of OHS programs in a workplace.

At both the national and international levels, OHS management system standards adopt a risk-based approach that follow the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.  This provides a framework for organizations to plan what they need to put in place to minimize the risk of harm to workers and to other persons who may be affected by its activities.  These standards require the active engagement of top management to demonstrate leadership and a commitment to more than just regulatory compliance – to identify work-related hazards in order to eliminate or minimize those that pose a significant risk.
