KRISTINE CHABOT

1. What is your current job title and which area do you cover?

I am the Health and Safety Officer with Western Construction Services Inc. In addition to my safety role, I also support HR and manage various administrative duties related to our construction projects.

2. How long have you worked in the industry?

I graduated with a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety in 2023 and began my career with Rajotte Capital Group. In November 2024, I became the HSE Officer for Western Construction Services. I also completed my Construction Management diploma in 2025, further strengthening my knowledge in the industry.

3. How long have you been a member of IPAM?

I have been a member since 2023, serving as a Director-at-Large.

4. Why did you become a member of the IPAM?

During a breakfast meeting while still a student, I engaged in conversations with IPAM board members and was invited to join the board as a student representative. Even after completing my studies, I chose to remain actively involved and continue to contribute as a Director-at-Large.

5. What do you love most about being a part of the safety culture?

What I enjoy most is knowing that the work we do directly impacts people’s well-being. Creating safe environments where workers feel protected and valued is both meaningful and rewarding. I also appreciate the continuous learning and collaboration that comes with being part of the safety community.

6. Has becoming a member of the IPAM helped you in your career?

Yes, absolutely. Being a member of IPAM has connected me with a network of safety professionals who share knowledge and experiences. It has provided opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and exposure to new perspectives that have helped me grow in my role.

7. Do you have any mentors in your professional life?

I am fortunate to have a mentor, Tristen Adams, who is currently an HSE Officer at Western Industrial Services Ltd. She has guided me since the beginning of my career, helping me navigate safety protocols and practices in construction. Even though I no longer work directly with WISL, she continues to support and mentor me as I progress in my career.

8. What is your favourite hobby or leisure activity?

I enjoy paddleboarding in the summer, reading books, and embracing new experiences whenever I can.

9. What is your favourite sports team?

The Winnipeg Jets for hockey and the Toronto Blue Jays for baseball.

10. What is something unique or something we may not know about you that your IPAM colleagues might find interesting?

Something not widely known is that I originally planned to pursue a career in nursing. I was accepted into RRC’s Nursing Baccalaureate Program and successfully completed my first year before deciding to shift my focus toward health and safety in construction. That choice has been one of the best decisions of my life. I’m grateful for the path I’m on now and remain committed to continuing my education and professional development with the goal of one day becoming a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
