Changing Safety Culture - One Nudge at a Time

ABOUT THE SESSION:

Nudge theory plays a vital role in safety and incident prevention by recognizing that human behavior is often guided by subtle cues rather than strict rules or enforcement. Instead of relying solely on policies or discipline, nudge theory uses gentle prompts - such as visual reminders, default options, or environmental design - to encourage safer choices naturally. These “nudges” make the desired behavior the easiest or most intuitive option, helping employees adopt safety practices without feeling pressured or micromanaged.

In the context of workplace safety, nudges can transform awareness into consistent action. Over time, small adjustments shape a culture where safety becomes second nature, reducing incidents and improving overall compliance. By aligning human behavior with organizational safety goals, nudge theory turns prevention from a rule into a reflex.
