Strategies for Facilitating Custom Presentations for Manitoba Workplaces "It’s the Singer, Not the Song!”

ABOUT THE SESSION:

Jack will share strategies that he incorporates when creating and delivering customized workplace safety and health presentations.  He will demonstrate how everything he does, from his first contact with the client to the follow-up email, is designed to build relationships with participants in his classes.

Does playing music quietly as participants enter the classroom and giving away      “A New Car” really serve a purpose? Is it really that important to know the presentation material thoroughly? The answer to both these questions is YES, because they help to build a space in which everyone feels comfortable to share and participate … once you do that, the learning takes care of itself and people walk away at the end of the course saying “Jeez, I did learn a couple of new things about WSH!”

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Jack A. Slessor
Workplace Safety and Health Training and Consulting

Jack Slessor is a Certified Safety and Health Consultant (CHSC) with over 17 years of experience as a workplace safety and health professional. Jack’s experience includes his time as a Workplace Safety and Health Officer with the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Branch and as a Prevention Consultant with SAFE Work Manitoba. He retired from SAFE Work Manitoba in September 2022, but continues to bring his passion for people and their safety to every presentation he provides as an independent trainer and consultant because he still loves what he is doing!

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Know your presentation material and audience’s workplace – their “world”, so thoroughly that you are freed up to “read the room” and not the slides.
  2. Strive to “connect” with every single participant in the room during the course of your presentation because that builds relationships and a safe space where people can relax and learn.
  3. Identify your strengths as a trainer and play to them … grow them and don’t be afraid to acknowledge your gaps and look for ways to improve on these areas too.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Trainers who are on the lookout for new techniques and strategies for presenting. Workplace safety and health professionals whose position requires them to recruit effective trainers for their WSH Committee members, supervisors, any anyone else who may be interested in this topic.
