Asbestos Uncovered: From Miracle Mineral to Hidden Hazard
ABOUT THE SESSION:
Did you know asbestos was once considered a "miracle material" and used in thousands of products? This session will explore the fascinating history of asbestos, where you might encounter it today, and the risks associated with exposure. You’ll learn how to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), best practices for managing them safely, and what to do if they are disturbed. We’ll also cover key regulatory requirements and practical control measures to protect workers and the public.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Kristin Petaski, P.Eng.

Kristin Petaski is the Group Manager at EHS Partnerships Ltd in Winnipeg. As a manufacturing engineer, she has spent the last 15 years in safety consulting specializing in risk assessment and control, machine safety, hazardous materials management, and occupational hygiene. Kristin has delivered occupational safety presentations across Canada to various organizations, conferences and seminars. As a consultant, she works with clients to identify, reduce, and manage risk, helping them create safer workplaces.
Tony Viles, GSC.
Project Coordinator
EHS Partnerships Ltd., Winnipeg
Tony Viles is a Project Coordinator at EHS Partnerships in Winnipeg. As a Gold Seal Certified construction Project Manager, he has over 20 years of experience working with hazardous materials, abatement, and occupational hygiene ranging from residential homes to large scale industrial and commercial buildings, schools and universities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This course is designed for individuals who may encounter asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in their workplace, job site or home, which is a significant portion of our population. Any building constructed prior to 1990 likely has asbestos-containing material and shockingly, Canada did not officially ban asbestos in the country until 2018. The target audience includes, but is not limited to health & safety professionals, building & facility managers, tradespeople, supervisors and employees, insurance and real estate professionals.

IPAM Members - No Charge
Non-Members - $45.00/person
Students - $25.00
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Non-Member Registrations – Cancellations received at least 72 hours (3 days) prior to the event date are accepted without charge. If cancellation is not received by the specified time frame the non-member fee of $45.00 is applicable. Substitutions are welcome.
If the non-member joins IPAM within a month of this meeting, the $45 fee will be applied to the cost of membership.
