Managing the Complexity of Health and Safety in Multicultural Environments
Friday, April 5, 2024 – on ZOOM
ABOUT THE SESSION
This session is intended to openly discuss challenges of health and safety as our country continues to diversify and open its borders to newcomers into industry.
Many newly landed residents come with minimal health and safety knowledge and experience, especially if the organizations they work for have had no ethical approach, or any decent supervision to support Occupational Health and Safety.
As employers, managers, supervisors and workers. Statistics demonstrate one in four are likely to be harmed in their first month to work without orientation training. How do you convey the message of safety to someone who can barely understand our national languages?
We need to be better as health and safety professionals, as coworkers, supervisors and employers. Everyone deserves to go home no matter where they come from, and many newcomers are prepared to do anything their new employers want to ensure they have enough to provide for their families. Is there a simple answer or how far do we need to go to accommodate? What are are our duties and responsibilities? We can explore some of what works and what doesn’t, the why’s, and use collective approaches throughout our organizations to reach the goal of minimizing injury and fatalities in our workplaces throughout the session.
